Denise MacNeill

Denise
MacNeill was born in Oakville Ontario and moved to Vancouver Island in
1991.
I feel that I’ve
been an artist all my life and have been given a great “gift” to be able to
paint the world around me.
Vancouver
Island and especially Nanaimo and its
inhabitants offers an endless source of inspiration for me.
Denise has
painted in Acrylics for 12 years.
I am primarily
a self-taught painter with a background in Fine Arts, Commercial Art, Weaving,
and Crafts.
My studies as a Commercial Artist, Community Support
Worker, and Mental Health Worker have broadened my skills & experiences as
an artist. For over 20 years I have worked with developmentally challenged
adults finding creative outlets for their artistic endeavors. I have facilitated
art classes and have enjoyed showcasing work and raising public awareness of
their unique and varied styles. Art is for everyone and has an empowering
effect on building any individuals dignity and confidence.
I have been located at “The Intersection
Art Gallery” number 6 Commercial St. for the past two years and have now made
the move to my new ”home based” studio and gallery, ready for exhibition
and classes starting in 2010. I enjoy the teaching process
with beginning and seasoned artists.
My message to my students is to have fun and
enjoy.
I have been very fortunate as a local artist to have exhibited
extensively and win numerous awards for my work in acrylics and
watercolours.
Denise recently closed her Father/ Daughter Gallery “The
Public Hanging” in the Old City Quarter after a five year run. She
